We Will Thrive 2018 - Fund Raiser Article

The church will continue to survive and will THRIVE if we can embrace new ideas and participate fully in a new and exciting fundraising campaign. As the church is aging, we also have tremendous upkeep. This year alone, we have re-shingled the roof of the church and Parish Hall, painted, replaced the back door lock and installed a new toilet. We also need to replace the flooring and windows in the Parish hall and build a wheelchair accessible ramp to provide access to the Parish hall.

Our “We will Thrive” 2017 campaign was a tremendous success. We raised $9, 251.30 and had 11 active teams involved. We are continuing the campaign / competition for 2018 and are looking for more teams to participate.

It will be a yearlong campaign/competition (Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2018). The concept is to have as many teams register as possible. We are encouraging team leaders to ask family members and friends to join their team. Teams can be any size. The goal is to encourage participation.

Now for the rules of the campaign. “There are no rules”! We are challenging teams to raise as much money as possible by using their particular ideas, interests and talents. You have one full year. The minimum challenge/goal is $100.00 per team but the maximum, well, the sky's the limit! Here are some ideas that we have thought of:

  • 2 liter pop bottle filled with dimes ($500.00) or regular water bottle filled with dimes ($100.00)
  • Family suppers, have a raffle on the centerpiece or dessert and bring dimes
  • Cooking classes / Knitting classes
  • Exercise classes
  • Craft Party
  • Women’s / Men’s night
  • Fishing Derby / Poker night
  • Talent show
  • Sledding / skating party
  • Family fun nights / Kids fun afternoon
  • Marathon / Bikeathon
  • Luncheon
  • Movie night– charge adm or sell popcorn
  • 50 / 50 draws
  • Garage sale / Auction
  • BBQ or Bud, Spud and Steak
  • Car wash
  • Give up coffee or lunch money once in a while

Keep in mind this is a competition and prizes will be awarded and will be determined by the total funds raised.

The chair persons are Bev Lesnick 204-785-7917 or alesnick@outlook.com and Joan Wilkinson 204-485-3906 or joan.wilkinson@mymts.net. Bev and Joan will keep track of the teams registered and the amount each team is raising. You can submit your funds each month, quarterly, twice a year or at the end of the year, but we would like to see a monthly update. Please register your team, including a team captain and team name asap.

Cost $25:00

Bingo Bowl - Date: Sunday, April 29, 2018

Held at the Selkirk Bowling Alley. Cost is $10.00 per person and shoe rental is $2.00. Prizes for the best and worst teams. Rainbow auction prizes - $5.00 for 25 tickets. Beverages and snacks served. This is a fun event
for the whole family.

Petersfield Mallard Park Outdoor Service - Date: Sunday, June 10th, 2018 (10:00 am)

Church Yard Sale - Date: Friday August 17 & Saturday August 18, 2018

A huge yard sale at St. George's Wakefield is held in the month of August on a Friday (10:00 am to 6:00 pm) and Saturday (9:00 am to 1:00 pm). Items at the yard sale include: children's toys/clothes; household items; books; CD's; exercise equipment; auto parts; produce and baking, and much more. There is a snack bar set-up in the church that sells tea, coffee, pop, hot dogs, potato chips and muffins.

Outdoor Churchyard Memorial Service - Date: Sunday, August 26th, 2018

4:00 - 5:00 pm (no regular Sunday morning worship)
Pot Luck supper following service.

Fall Tea and Bazaar - Date: Sunday, September 23, 2018

Held at the Clandeboye Community Hall from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. Tables are set-up to sell a variety of baked goods, crafts, Christmas items, antique items, produce and preserves, and children's fish pond. Lots of Rainbow Auction prizes ($5.00 for 25 tickets and large prize items sell at $1.00 each). Tickets are sold throughout the year for 1 or 2 quilts and gift cards.

Family Halloween Dance - Date: Friday, October 26th, 2018
Petersfield Hall - 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cost $5.00, children under 3 - free

Family Fun Night - Date: Friday, November 2nd, 2018
Movie night, St. George Parish Hall - 6:00 pm
Cost $2.00

Christmas Craft Sale - Date: Saturday, November 17th, 2018

Held on a Saturday in November at the Clandeboye Community Hall and is available to anyone. St. George's Wakefield rents two tables and sells Christmas items, baking, and anything left over from the yard sale.
